Tellavision - Add Land - Bureau B
This is sonic innovator Tellavision's fourth album, a set that sees her firmly ensconced in harmony with the not dissimilar dissonaces of Holly Herndon, Jlin, early St Vincent, Laurie Anderson and Gazelle Twin. Add Land is a baker's dozen of artful vignettes that tread new ground - no verse chorus verse chorus structures here, this is all gloriously odd, brimming with heavy percussion, fractured synths and Tellavision's dramatic vocals.
Matchbox sounds like it's been adapted from a Sleaford Mods backing track, Add Land and Purple View rely on live drum loops and fills and Projector Running is about as close to a straightforward song as you'll get on what is a technically pin-sharp, almost avant-garde, collection of short stories and broken beats. Finally, closer Talking to Myself takes the listener on a journey through the fuggy world of the likes of Cluster or Edgar Froese. Admirably all self-penned, Add Land has more pluses than minuses.
