NILS FRAHM - ALL MELODY - REVIEW

Nils Frahm - All Melody - Erased Tapes

First impressions of Frahm's umpteenth album recall Clannad during their Magical Ring and Legend period or soloist Enya's early Celts album. Lovely albums all of course but don't be deterred - the German composer has added enough of his own trademark atmospherics and electronic rhythms to make All Melody exactly that.

Perhaps more minimal than his Victoria soundtrack or Screws, this collection fuses dubbed-up electronica with pulsing synths and acoustic piano in much the same way as Durutti Column, Wim Mertens, ECM's Art Lande or label-mate Lubomyr Melnyk. One listen to the likes of Forever Changeless, Sunson, Momentum and the title-track should convince you that Frahm's view of the world is decidedly less confused than the people running it.
