EVERYTHING EVERYTHING:
A FEVER DREAM:
SONY:
LP/CD/DD:
OUT NOW:
Four albums in and Everything Everything don't appear to be letting up. Jonathan Higgs' vocal histrionics still sit comfortably amongst the band's quirky and twitchy synth rhythm n blues while the songs seem to have more in common with the acclaimed debut Man Alive. But rather than just revisit the same template over and over again, they've toned it down a little and honed a better LP than predecessor Get To Heaven.
It's a tad rhythm-heavy in places but they hit the spot with the album's counterpoint, an absorbing middle trio of Good Shot, Good Soldier, Run The Numbers and the title track. Higgs and co have clearly been working on those choruses and harmonies, as demonstrated on the atmospheric shorty New Deep which recalls Alan Parsons most genial and ambient moments (no, really). Personally I would have started the album with it but actual opener Night of the Long Knives is a primer for an altogether more wholesome experience than the band's previous albums.
7/10
