Co-founder of influential Belgian indie Les Disques du Crepuscule has sadly passed away today. Alongside Michel Duval, she brought chic and femininity to an otherwise fairly masculine European post-punk scene, quietly promoting and selling artists that may have gone otherwise unnoticed.
By way of landmark compilations and influential singles and albums, Honore and Duval's musical vision brought many UK artists to the Brussels-based label in the early '80s including Bill Nelson, Cabaret Voltaire, Orange Juice, A Certain Ratio (on sister-label Factory Benelux) and John Foxx, as well as local outfits The Names and Isolation Ward. Her involvement in the Brussels live scene has been well-documented with her booking of Joy Division at the Plan K venue in Molenbeek, as well as Durutti Column, Cabaret Voltaire, William S Burroughs, A Certain Ratio, Birthday Party and a role-call of local and international bands gradually putting Belgium on the music map of the '80s.
Rather than keep dredging up her brief friendship with Ian Curtis, we should remember the musical legacy she has left behind, a veritable treasure trove from Les Disques du Crepuscule, a legacy very much still alive today.
