Hi, I’m Paul. A lifelong music fan since 1979 when I got my first record player and very first single (Get Down by Gene Chandler). Up until Thursday 18th May 2023, this record plus 8000 others and thousands of CDs, books, keepsakes that I had built up into a treasured collection were destroyed in a critical fire at Access Self-storage in Byfleet, Surrey (UK). Due to having to move from a rented flat in London into a smaller place in Surrey in 2012, I chose this location for convenience with the eventual plan to convert some of these records, CDs and memorabilia into an online business. After 35 years in music retail, I knew I could make it work. Sadly, that plan has all but been dashed by this awful event. I have lost valuable box-sets and far less valuable dance, disco and reggae singles that were personal favourites, along with my XTC, Factory, 4AD, Crepuscule, Greensleeves, New Order, Magazine, Durutti Column, Talk talk etc etc. It's only stuff. DURUTTI COLUMN - ANOTHER SETTING REISSUE

The Durutti Column: Another Setting: Factory Benelux: CD: Out Sept 17th: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ When compared to other Durutti Column releases such as LC, The Return of the Durutti Column and The Guitar and Other Machines, 1983's Another Setting is generally cruelly cast aside as the runt of the litter. Originally pressed on cheap quality vinyl and mastered at half the standard volume, Another Setting looked beautiful but sounded rotten - I know, I went through five of them before finding a copy that didn't sound like it was made of cardboard and being played with a barbed-wire stylus. If ever there is one album of Durutti Column's that deserved a decent vinyl reissue, this is it. Still waiting. For now though, Factory Benelux have grabbed the baton with this beautifully-packaged digital reissue, this time with some rare extras added to the fold. ALBUM REVIEW - Ian McCulloch - Candleland 2xCD - Rhino/Edsel

Bunnymen polymath's solo albums come under scrutiny with extra tracks and rarities 8/10 One of the '80s icons and permanent fixtures on many a student's bedroom wall, Ian McCulloch spawned at least a few thousand fashion clones dressed in trademark overcoat, skinny black jeans and sporting a sprouty mop-top. Yet for all these stylistic faux-pas back in the day, McCulloch was, and still is, one of Britain's most engaging songwriters who, with Bunny bandmates, racked up an enviable stream of the decade's true anthems - The Killing Moon arguably remains a creative holy grail. After Echo and the Bunnymen split for the first time in 1987, McCulloch seemed to know exactly where he was going with his solo career, somewhere personal and somewhere without the pressures of album, singles, tour and next album.
